General Events 1951 A group of 9 doctors diagnosed King George VI as having 'a lung disease'. 1939 Irishman William Joyce otherwise known as Lord Haw-Haw, made his first Nazi propaganda broadcast to Britain. 1983 It was announced that the Mary Rose was to go on public display from October 11. 1977 Voyager I took the first space photograph of the earth and moon together. 1997 The simple grave of Sir Winston Churchill was to be given a £350,000 face-lift after over 3 decades of visiting tourists had left the site 'a shabby mess'.
