General Events 1982 A power failure brought Quebec to a near stand-still and left over 6,000,000 people with out light or heat in sub-zero temperatures. 1982 Dr Garrett Fitzgerald defeated Charles Haughey to return to power in the Irish Republic. 1989 The 16 year dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet cameto an end when Patricio Aylwin was elected President of Chile. |
