1983 A Buckingham Palace official claimed that the figure of £1500 alleged to be the weekly clothes shopping bill for the Princess of Wales was distorted.

1995 Dame Vera Lynn launched a nationwide campaign to draw attention to the hardships still being suffered by many of the survivors of the Second World War. She was asking for a penny contribution for each of the 50 years of peace since 1945.
